So today the sun was playing hide and seek but that didn’t stop us to discover the hill behind our cabin. We hiked until the mountaintop to discover a domain with cabins that are used for we don’t know what but they can only be reached by the trail we took and that was some climb. Anyhow, the nature is amazing and we took a more or less uncharted way back right through the forest. Beautiful waterfalls, blueberries and wild strawberries (at least we think…Continue Reading “Day 7 : Hiking in Stryn”

The trip from Bergen to Stryn was long (in time, not in distance) because of the scenic road we had to take. And scenic it was, just beautiful driving along the lakes and fjords. It’s difficult to describe so I invite you to take a look at the pictures below. Finally we arrived at our cabin in Stryn. A more idyllic place is difficult to describe. A complete wooden cabin next to a waterfall with a stunning view on the nearby fjord and the snowy…Continue Reading “Day 6 : The trip to Stryn”

All depends, drinking alcohol in pubs and restaurants tend to be expensive to our Belgian standards . Count between 8 to 12 € for a normal beer (40 cc)) and between 35 and 60 € for a bottle of normal wine. A coke is somewhere between 4 and 6 € so yes, that part is expensive. We found out that uncommon places such as the cafeteria of a museum is up to 30% cheaper for the same drinks and once you buy your drinks in…Continue Reading “Day 6 : Is Norway expensive?”

Today we went to visit Bergen. In the morning we went to fetch some bread for our breakfast (sizes in Norway are XXXL, with one bun we had enough for the whole family (and we bought 4)). We went on foot from our apartment to the city centre and made a nice walk through the streets. In the afternoon we went to visit the Bryggen museum (and the adjoining Bryggen quarter that still has houses in the original style as they were 500 years ago)….Continue Reading “Day 5 : Visiting Bergen and surroundings”

When driving around in an electric vehicle you never know if the local grid is OK to charge your car on it. Even in Belgium we sometimes find ourselves in a tight spot when a normal 220V outlet apparently doesn’t meet the specs that your car requires (often the ground and neuter don’t combine the way they should). When I learned that my standard charging-cable wouldn’t work in Norway I panicked a bit, sure, there are a lot of superchargers here (Norway = Tesla country)…Continue Reading “Thank you Bjorn!!!”

There can be no mistake : Bergen is wet in every aspect but the beauty of the surrounding nature and the typical building-style make up for the weather. While writing this post we had rain-sun-rain-sun-clouds-rain-sun-apocalyptic rain-sun… We are lodged in a very nice Airbnb high in the surrounding hills with a magnificent view on Bergen.   We went shopping in the local Spar and we are currently enjoying a small Gin-Tonic and a bit of Saint-Emillion (we brought those from Belgium). We also connected our…Continue Reading “Day 4 : We arrived in Bergen!!”

Almost there… the trip to Bergen is enchanting with beautiful views of the fjords and magnificent plays of sunlight and water. During the night we had some huge rain showers but in the morning the sun was back again (but played hide and seek with the clouds). In the morning we had a royal breakfast with view on the fjords, we played cards and “chapeau” on the deck before finally touching down in Norway…

And by Jove…the sun appeared and we had a great dinner at the Lilleheden (a local restaurant very close to the ferry-gates). They have great Greenland Coffee (Kahlua, Tripple Sec, Whiskey and a bit of coffee). After that we took the car on the ferry (quite impressive to drive your car on such a huge boat) and took of for Bergen. More on that tomorrow !

Yup, the rain is back and quite plenty. Funfact at the supercharger in Randers : a gathering of Nimbus-motorbikes https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimbus_(motorcycle) at a diner that was build in living memory of The King Elvis Presley. Yep, you see strange things in Denmark.
