Day 17-18-19 : Arrival in Oslo at hotel Lysebu Sorry for the delay this time but we have been rather busy. First things first, when you plan to come to Oslo, puhleeese stay in Hotel Lysebu in the mountains with a stunning view on Oslo. Price-quality : unbeatable (opt for the slightly larger junior suites, worth the money) : http://www.lysebu.no/. Just watch this movie and be charmed : They also have a chicken shed with quite peculiar chickens. We baptised them “poedelkiekens” (fluffy chickens). Take…Continue Reading “Day 17-18-19 : Arrival in Oslo at hotel Lysebu”

Norwegians love their flag, it’s literally everywhere. Before building a house they first erect the flagpole in the garden I guess.  Also at our cabin in Bjorli the flag was ready for hoisting. This inspired us to write a small post on a few traditional foods we discovered during our stay. In one of our stops at the local supermarket Valérie decided to try the infamous Huldreost. It’s a brown cheese made with mountain herbs and aquavit and is a part of the Brunost family (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunost)….Continue Reading “Norwegian Tradition!”

Woopsie, a bit cold this morning in Bjorli but in the land of the vikings we consider this a challenge! In Norway only pussies lay next to the swimming pool and drink cocktails. Norwegians climb mountains or swim in ice-cold fjords, so today we climbed a mountain (the Bøverbotten) to go and take a look at the lake Bøvervatnet. There is a path that gently climbs the slopes to bring you to the 1050 meter high lake but alas…. The Van Den Kieboomkes decided to…Continue Reading “Day 16 : Climbing the Bøverbotten”

We travelled further inland after Trondheim. This is clearly the wetter part of our holiday but as Norway seems to prove : “After rain comes sunshine and then rain again”. It’s colder here on the mainland but the scenery is as beautiful as ever. You can see a small video of the scenery below, nothing special but just a classic view when you are driving in the mainland. The first day in Bjorli (which is a ski-station in the winter) we relaxed and besides some…Continue Reading “Day 14+15 : Bjorli”

Two days in one post today. Yesterday we arrived in Orkanger (40 km from Trondheim) in our hotel. The trip was as always a beautiful trip close to the coastal lines of Norway with a small detour over the Atlantic Road. We had dinner in the hotel and then a good nights rest to prepare or our visit to Trondheim. Weather predictions were grim : rain in the afternoon 100% sure… well, that turned out a bit differently, I still feel the sunburn on my…Continue Reading “Day 12 + 13 : Trondheim”

Today we accepted the challenge to climb the Reinsfjellet, a mountain next to the Bergsøyfjorden that has a height of 994 meters. On top of the mountain you have a magnificent view of the surrounding fjords, lakes, mountains and the ocean. Of course the hike was a challenge with our two smurfs who (after more or less 100 meters) started to revolt and asking every 10 meters if it was still far from the top. But they did well and the reward was worth all…Continue Reading “Day 11 : Up the mountain!!”

Today we took the boat for a spin and went grocery shopping on the other side of the fjord (it’s way easier by boat than by car). Behind the grocery store there even is a pier for easy docking. During the trip we threw out some fishing lines and caught (part of) our evening meal. Kristan was particularly successful with 4 catches and even Valérie and Natalia caught one. I was the lucky one doing the dirty work meaning : killing and cleaning the little…Continue Reading “Day 10 : Fishing on the Bergsøyfjorden”

We left Stryn early in the morning (we can really recommend Dag-Arne’s cabin so if you are interested here’s the link to his Airbnb page : https://www.airbnb.be/rooms/9472147). Again, the trip was marvellous but that’s beginning to sound boring I guess. We visited the famous lookout point on the Trollstigen road and next to the view the lookout itself is an architectural marvel. If you are in the neighbourhood this is a must do.             We also passed the 150.000 km…Continue Reading “Day 9 : Trip to Nordmøre (Kvalvåg)”

One the most well-known fjords in Norway is the Geiranger Fjord. If you want to see truckloads of Chinese tourist cattle and idiots grunting their way up the fjord with their RV’s (with 100 cars behind their slow, under powered houses on wheels) : this is the place to be!! You really have to harness yourself for the traffic on the road in the Fjord, driving behind an Estonian bus with a driver who got his licence 3 days ago is a real challenge and…Continue Reading “Day 8 : visit of the Geiranger Fjord”
