Day 12 + 13 : Trondheim

Categories Norway

Two days in one post today. Yesterday we arrived in Orkanger (40 km from Trondheim) in our hotel. The trip was as always a beautiful trip close to the coastal lines of Norway with a small detour over the Atlantic Road.

We had dinner in the hotel and then a good nights rest to prepare or our visit to Trondheim. Weather predictions were grim : rain in the afternoon 100% sure… well, that turned out a bit differently, I still feel the sunburn on my face 😊.

The visit to Trondheim was great and much better than expected. We started our visit with a stop at the local flea-market at the Kjopmannsgata.

Small and great fun but there were no Xbox-One games on sale so Kristan didn’t care that much.

Our next stop was the Rock and Pop museum “Rockheim”.

Although you might not know a lot of Norwegian rockstars, don’t hesitate to visit this VERY interactive museum, it’s really worth it. We had fun with the hits from A-ha and more contemporary artists like Röyksopp and many others. There is also an impressive display of musical instruments used for this music such as original 8-tracks, Gibsons, Fenders, Roland keyboards and many, many others all in good working order and we were even able to handle a Fender or a Technics SL 1200 MKII ourselves. Really amazing 😊.

After the Rockheim we made a stroll through the city and went to visit the well-known Nidaros Domkirke. A beautiful restored Lutheran cathedral where the Norwegian kings are traditionally crowned. We climbed the main tower (171 excruciating steep steps) to enjoy a beautiful view on Trondheim.

After that we were a bit thirsty and enjoyed a few drinks in a nearby Kaffe and this still under a beautiful and (very) hot sun (so far the weather predictions for today, muhahaha).

In the evening we went to a delicious Sushi restaurant and had a great meal at a local restaurant called Amber (http://amberasianfood.no/). Don’t hesitate to go there, great value for money and delicious Sushi.

Once we left Trondheim, the rain started falling. It was like the gods waited for our visit of Trondheim to finish. Thank you non-existent deities, we love you all.

Small remark : The ratio Tesla’s per square kilometre in Trondheim is the highest I have seen in Norway so far… absolutely ridiculous.
